“Let us…” ~Exhortations from Hebrews
Every Sunday, I have the privilege of teaching a small group of youth girls during the Sunday School hour. We have worked through several fantastic books written by contemporary authors, but interspersed between these studies, I like to take a book of the Bible and teach through it.
For some reason, God has laid Hebrews on my heart for this next study and so today, we will start working our way through this incredible book.
Hebrews 13:22 reveals the purpose for the book- I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation. Exhortation simply means emphatically urging someone to do something and Hebrews is full of emphatic communication. In our overview of Hebrews, we will be looking at these exhortations that typically begin with “Let us…”
Being challenged and encouraged by these exhortations seems like the perfect way to begin a New Year and so I have decided to share the “Let us…” statements from Hebrews in this space. I pray that we would all listen and be changed by these challenges from scripture.
“Let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it” (the promise of entering God’s rest) ~Hebrews 4:1
“Let us make every effort to enter that rest” ~Hebrews 4:11
“Let us hold firmly to the faith we profess” ~Hebrews 4:14
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence” ~Hebrews 4:16
“Let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity” ~Hebrews 6:1
“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart” ~Hebrews 10:22
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess” ~Hebrews 10:24
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on to love and good deeds” ~Hebrews 10:24
“Let us not give up meeting together” ~Hebrews 10:25
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles” ~Hebrews 12:1
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” ~Hebrews 12:1
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus” ~Hebrews 12:2
“Let us be thankful and so worship God with reverence and awe” ~Hebrews 12:28
“Let us then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore” ~Hebrews 13:13
“Let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise” ~Hebrews 13:13
Let us be challenged and encouraged to pursue a deeper knowledge of Christ in 2016. May our hearts be stirred to love Him more and may that love overflow to everyone we meet. Let us honor God with our lives and seek His will in all that we do and say.
