“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope,
because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.” (Lam. 3:21-23)
It doesn’t make any earthly sense to have hope in the situation I find myself in. My Daddy is losing his earthly fight and the tears are falling hard and swift.
I find my heart bursting with hope and with joy all at the same time.
My Daddy has lived his life to bring honor and glory to God. He has prayed faithfully for and with us. He has clung to Jesus. He has studied God’s Word with passion. He has loved our Mama completely.
He has been the best Daddy his girls could have asked for.
And so we cry and we rejoice. Because we will miss him horribly, but how can we keep him here? Why would we want him to stay a captive to his earthly body when Jesus is waiting for him?
“For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21)
My Daddy lived for Christ. In his sermon on this verse he said, “The great ambition of every Christian~ that Jesus Christ would be magnified and honored through our lives.”
Well done, good and faithful servant! I can hear these words being said when my Daddy meets Jesus. How can I not rejoice in this?
We have loved him ferociously, our Daddy who laughed with us, cried with us, prayed with us, sang with us, taught us, disciplined us, set an example for us, sacrificed for us, LOVED us!
We rejoice that he officiated every wedding and met all of his grandchildren.
We celebrate a life well lived!
As I cried last night with the news that the end is near, I pulled out his old Bible, the one that is marked with his words (and his tears!) and I found this treasure…
What a blessing his words will continue to be in our lives! (even when they are misspelled!)
Oh, how I love my Daddy! I am sure there will be more tears and I know I will miss him.
But the hope is extreme. And that is all because of Jesus!
